WD-40 scrachted eye

Submitted by joe j on 06/03/2004 at 14:15. ( ) 208.27.202.124

I'm leaving for competition tomorrow and in cleaning eye today I found a scratch. I remember someone talking about using a drop of WD40 to cover scratch and give eye "gloss" look. I have never done this before and do not have time to do anything else. Anybody ever try this or should I just go as is? I used laquer based paint if that has any bearing on anything. Will WD40 react with paint around edges? I need help fast

the scratch will disappear.

Unfortunately, if your judges read this website, they're going to be looking CLOSELY at your eyes - lol!

I've tried

I've tried that before but did not like the "sticky" look to the eye. I was hoping someone had used the WD40 trick. I'm afraid to screw it up worse than it is now. Thanks though

Try furniture polish on the eye

Sticky look?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. With fish, the clear coat looks like the eye w/o a clearcoat - nice and shiny like a moist eye should look...

I know motorcycle windshields with scratches can be covered up with furniture polish

Anonymous again

You guys chafe my ass. If you HAVE information, in the time it took you to spell 'anonymous', you could used your name or used "ignoramus' as it contains the same number of letters. "Anonymous" has virtually NO credibility.

Furniture polish works on PLASTIC and PLEXIGLAS. It's been used for years on fighter aircraft canopies. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on GLASS eyes. As marty said, a good gloss will hide it as long as the light is right. A product called "Brite Eyes" will work, but it's temporary. "Liquid Crystal" will work well and there's a new product on the market designed to "repair" scratched glasses.

all the chafeing over the years
