First Pedistal

Hello,
When working on a pedistal how do you secure it to your stand, add a block that fits into the crevice in the rear of the form? It seems that the wood in the form is only a small 2-3 inch area on the brisket, do you often just have to add your own block? Could someone please just give me the general rundown on a pedistal. Oh when you do the back is it different than a regular shoulder mount other than being covered? Hey I really thank any one who takes the time, I know how valuable it is to me. Thanks again Hank

Hank, I start by cutting out a couple of sections of foam from the back, set in some pine blocks and bondo over. Now you have some good anchors to screw to to attatch to your mounting stand. Remember to check level of the form during mounting as well as that it is plumb. Once attatched to the pedestal the eyes could look all wrong if the deer is not mounted positioned properly. After mount is finished I cover the back with buckskin after smoothing out over the screw holes from the mounting stand. I find it best to trim the mount's skin evenly all around and then glue buckskin in place, lifting the hair out of the way and then letting it cover the joint between hide and buckskin. I also use a brad stapler to finish things out. Hope this helps you- enjoy, Aaron H.

may not be exactly what you are asking for, but they do show some techniques you may want to use.

Yes, bondo a block at a point where your attachment point is not to readily seen.... Make sure that when you attach it that your eyes are level and the back is plumb...
