Doesn't sound like so much when you put it into the context of recouping your investment now, does it?

no it does not

700 certainly is not much as far as deer class[s] go but if you do not learn much is 700 still cheap. I am more concerned aboute the class than anything. 1500 might not be to much if you get something out of it and 700 could be to much? just wanna know what past students thought of the class? thank you for your comment George

I have my own opinions about taxidermy SCHOOLS in general, but of what I do know about Dan Rinehart, he wouldn't impugn his reputation for a measley $700. Most of us old bastards paid far more than that in time, effort, sweat, and blood to learn proper techniques.

Have you attended your state show or any of the larger shows and their seminars? Only you can answer if a school is the answer. I think the seminars that you get for the price of admission to a show would be better for a full service taxidermists who doesn't specialize in any particular area. I agree with your remark that you don't just throw good money away and I admire you trying to find out about such an investment. Good luck.

I have never been to Dan's school which is located close to me.I have talked to many people that have taken it locally and have not heard anything negative about his deer class. Just remember that a lot of schools will be teaching the major basics on mounting deer to get a person started.I believe Dan also has an advance class to help a person get more indepth with deer mounting. I would also recommend joining your state association which will also enhance your deer mounting techniques by surrounding yourself with many professional taxidermists. Dues do not cost much to join and you will get more than your money's worth by joining. If you are from Wisconsin, you can contact me about the Wisconsin Taxidermist Assoc..Hope this helps.

Although I didn't attend Dan's school, I did attend his brothers (AIT), They taught the basics and how to use the Rinehart products. Since attending this school, I have joined the Wisconsin Taxidermy Assoc. (WTA) and have learned more through the members than I did at the school. It is a good point to begin, but there are many talented members of the WTA that will assist you as well, some even do specialized classes.

Joe Meder

I have not been to Rinehart's, but I have been to Joe Meder's. I can sum it up for you like this: I can't wait to go back, it was simply the best 1500.00 that I have ever spent, not to mention the long haul from MI. I'm sure that you could do a search on this forum and find out lots of info on Joe, and speaking from my personal experience you won't find a nicer guy. Plus he has live deer right there that will eat out of your hand and teach you lots of cool things. Like I said, I havent been to Rinehart's but I hear he does good fish.

thank you all so much for your comments

I went to Dan's school and had a blast. I had done very little before. Learned a lot and had a bunch of fun. I went only to the Deer head course. His teachers are great. We would get there early and do the regular class, then they would bring there own thing to do in the evening if you wanted to stay and learn. Some of the things we did in the evenings were antler repair, put a skull form in a bear rug and skined a boars head. If you have any questions just e-mail me. Tony

I know of several people who have gone to Rinehart's school and all of them had positive experiences. I also think that some of their products like their maniquins with preset eyes are inovative and great. I've watched some of their videos and learned more usefull, new techniques from them than from any others I've seen.

still not sure?
