I mounted a whitetail deer shoulder mount five days ago. I am experiencing hair slippage (a few hairs with the brush of a finger tip come loose)on the throat and chest area where I believe the cape held the most moisture. After reading articles in this forum I applied a fan to help dry this area after noting the skin was still somewhat plyable/soft. I used a dry preservative in the mounting application. Is there anything else I can do to help this hide dry out and stop the hair slippage? How many day's does it normally take for it to dry out? If damage has been done are there any products to salvage this mount? Your help is appreciated.

give the mount time to dry and see if it locks it in. A lot could be going on and there are so many variables from bacteria to too much glue.

Sounds like you dry preserved the deer or used a topical tan without a pickle. You're pulling the hair out of the cape. Slippage is when the epidermis actually slides off the skin carrying the hair with it. Stop brushing it, that should have been done immediately after you mounted it. Only work the eyelids, lips and earbutts during the first week or so of drying.
