Taxidermy has been a hobby of mine for the past few years, and I've gotten pretty decent at doing my own deer heads. Recently a lot of friends and friends of friends have been asking me to mount animals for them. I live in Pennsylvania and am not a certified taxidermist, so I cant mount these animals for profit, but if the "customers" bought all the materials that I would need, could I legally mount their deer head for them? I wasn't sure if that would be legal since technically i'm not accepting any money.

sorry Greg, but in pa you cannot even mount them at your cost and return them to the "customer" free of charge. believe me, i have been trying to get this test thing down so i can start charging and making some of my investment back, i actually came up with a new plan. i recently purchased a house so the extra learning i need is out of the question right now, so i'm going for just my fish license in sept, (which i know i can pass) then use the money i earn doing fish to pay some one like paul czarnecki (sorry if i spelled it wrong paul) to help me with my bird work which is what i pretty much keep failing. if your as good as you say you shouldnt have any trouble with the test, but if your like me and thought you were good til someone who is shows you where your making mistakes, you might be in for a surprise. good luck with whichever you decide to do. Thanks for the reply Croc. Do you know where I can find some info on how to take the tests necessary?
call the pa game commision, they will send you an application that you must submit with 50 dollars to take the test, wouldnt wait too long though because the test is coming up in sept, and the apps probably have to be in by early august at the latest, good luck
