splitting eye lids

James, No- not an "absolute". Splitting all the way to the edge and removing that little gland along the lash line will give the best result with less shrinkage but many folks do not do it and produce good commercial mounts. Like a lot of things in taxidermy you just choose how much effort you want to put into it. Enjoy- Aaron H.

ALL My Mounts

I do this with all of my mounts, because there is no difference between my commercial mounts and my show pieces.

Aaron is correct.. it just makes a better mount. Maybe the client won't notice a difference, but is it worth that chance that they might be disappointed? I always want a satisfied customer, whether I do the piece tomorrow, or whether I did it 15 years ago...

You get paid for what you do and what you know, because you have a skill. The shows don't really pay you... your clients do....
