When I cover the back of a pedistal do I attach the leather after I mount the deer? Do I pull hide around the back then glue the hide in place, allow to dry then glue buckskin over the back ? Also do you normaly insert a peice of square tubing into the form then grind a peice of all-thread to fit into tubing, and then attach the all-thread to the base? Then slide tubing that is bondo'ed into form onto the all-tread attached to the base ? Thanks a lot. Hope I worded this well enough to understand. Thanks again

Hank, You've got it pretty much correct. I mount the deer after working out the attatchment problems. Once the mannikin slips easily onto the base and makes a solid connection and the mount is dry I pull away the edge of the cape on the back, Glue in a piece of leather and then carefully glue or nail the edge of the cape back in place overlapping the edge of the leather. That's how I do it but there are other ways. Enjoy- Aaron H.
You can cover the back of the mount with a number of materials, But do this after the mount has dried. The moisture in the hide will cause the leather to discolor. Secondly. Square tubing comes in different sizes. You can get a precise fit with two different sizes. The tubing is inserted into the form and secured. The second piece of tubing is attached to the base and can be slid directly into the first. The all thread method will let you "spin" the mount. I would think that the all thread would make a wobbly connection and not a very finished look. Good luck.
Tuck the hide and leather into the foam. Many pedastals have a line around the edge of the back that indicates where to tuck. Dremmel out about a 1/8" wide, 1 inch deep canal around the edge of the back, maybe 1 1/2" in from the very edge. Get you some thin clothing leather. Apply your glue to the back, place the leather on it and tuck the leather and the edge of the hide into the canal.Gives you a seemless edge. Make sure the leather isn't pulled too tight when tucked otherwise it will pull away from the concave part of the back of the form.
What I was explaining applies to wall pedastals. I think you're talking about standing pedastals. Sorry.
