i have a fallow deer with velvet on horns. I injected the horns with a liquide preservative for ducks feet, next i spayed the preservative on the ouside of the horns (i know now is a mistake) the horns are sticky on the outside. How can i clean preservative off of outside without ruining velvet? P.S.the horns have already cured.

If you are SURE they are cured and dry

Take warm soapy water and wash them down gently. Hose them off with low pressure water, blow them off with shop air and then gently backbrush them with a soft brush and hair drier.

i had the same problem

george is correct in emphasizing that they MUST be completely dry.

mine were sticky too, even though i didnt brush it on the outside. after they were dry, i just went over them with a soft brass brush. it softened them right up and the tackyness was gone. i avoided washing them with water to keep from rehydrating them. but that might work too.

soapy water

when you say use soapy water. Do you mean stick the soft brush in soapy water and brush it or lightly use a wash cloth than lightly brush it? The horns have also been curring for almost 3 weeks. thank you Bryan
