send them to a freeze drier. The velvet shrinks to bad when you use velvet tan or any other type of preserve. World Fauna in Colorado is the best. He drys them and treats them with a bug proofer. You will have no worries, besides its worth it if you want them around for a long time.
I use Nunkester taxidermy supply they freeze dry my turkey heads and velvet horns
