I found a neat way to stretch a short y cut cape. Using two hockey sticks. A flat blade works best. Cut the blade off of one, then slot the end of the handle with a table saw, not cutting all the way through, just cutting a slot deep enough to place the tip of the second stick into it. Insert into inside of the cape from the bottom to the head. Lay on a table and place the tip of the blade into the slot of the handle, pry apart handles and hold pressure for twenty seconds, let loose and rotate the cape a bit and stretch again. Do not over stretch in one spot, but use the same pressure and time span at each position as you rotate the cape to stretch in a new spot each time. Presto! Stretcho!
Doug, First be sure to thin that skin down well. I put both hands into the neck, make 2 fists then twist at the wrists. A little hard to describe but it works well for me. If a cape is dificult to stretch it most likely is too thick. Enjoy, Aaron H.
I just hydrate the skin and then grab the hide like I am pulling back my bow. I start at the point right behind the ears, and work my way down all the way to the shoulders. and as far as the face goes, I test it on the form then determine if it needs to be stretched or not.
I have found t hat using the large ear openers to strech it enoungh. but I'm new. Just put the hide on the form and work it around the head and neck until it is streched just right.
