McKenzie mannikins

i am about to purchase a McKenzie whitetail mannikin series 9600 upright. At the bottom of the page it says a pre installed hanger system is incorporated into this series. So does that mean theyre is already a hanger on it and i dont need to purchase a hanger for it. Also it says the eye size for my mannikin is 220A/S so is that supposed to mean i need a certain sized eye or what. there is nothing that says what that means on the page.

Yes this does mean that the hanger is already installed and you do not need to buy one. Almost all McKenzie forms have the pre installed hanger system, unless otherwise noted.

The eyes size that McKenzie suggests for there form is always on the same line as the form measurments. The form in which you are looking at McKenzie recommends a 220 A/S eye size. Most of there forms have what they call a positive eye set and that is what size the form has been molded to except. Some taxidermist will go one size bigger on the eye to get more surface to work with.

When you call McKenzie to place your order, the girls will help you out and get you what you need.

You'll be wise to buy the hanger

Those "pre installed hangers" are the biggest piece of crap to hit the industry. They're PLASTIC and unless you're using a 10d nail, there's a chance your mount won't "fit" the customer's idea. A good metal hanger costs you 50 cents and it screws into the plywood and will accept nails, bolts, hooks and wire. Buy the hanger.

And furthermore...

those platic doo-dad hangers require that you leave the backside of the mount bare, which allows the customer and everyone else to see the rough stapled edges of the hide. At the advice of several guys here, I started using the boxes the forms come in to trace the outline of the form's backside on, then cut it out about a half-inch smaller all the way around and use it to cover the back of the mount. Customer response on the "finished look" have all been very positive. That doo-dad is a real pain in the keester if you happen to get your real hanger anywhere near it.

I wish

McKenzie would ditch the pre-installed hangers. I sell lots of panels and they get covered up any way. And what's up with the 4" hole cut out of the backboards lately? That is also a pain when installing a panel.

that hole...

Is courtesy of the new foam system. My thinking is you just get used to offsetting those screws. For what its worth, I very seldom get calls for panels. Funny how different areas vary!

i like hangers installed

I absolutely LOVE those preinstalled hangers. Yes, they're plastic. But they DO NOT break with normal use. In fact, I've went so far as to hang one and pull HARD on the head of the form. I would have broke the form before I broke the hanger. And I'm not sure what George means about 10D nails? I use standard deck/drywall screws (just like 99 percent of the public would) and have no problem whatsoever hanging them. In fact, I like the hangers so much, I will actually NOT use a couple of the Meder forms that don't have them unless I absolutely have to.
