Altering a deer muzzle

Submitted by Jerry C in MO. on 10/12/04 at 12:07 PM. ( ) 64.242.58.112

I got my first deer in a 10 point with a nice rack but a small head and neck measures 7" eye to nose 16" 3"behind neck. All the forms in the pose he wants are to short eye to nose to get the right size neck.Iam thinking about altering the muzzle 1/4 to 1/2 inch.Checked the archives only found 2 posts that were not much help.My question is this to much alteration and if so what are my other options thanks Jerry

Scroll to the bottom of the deer catagory, there you will find the ARCHIVES, this information you seek is there.

I've done this from time-to-time, you just cut the muzzle off about half way up, then cut off your 1/4 or 1/2" then bondo the muzzle back on and blend/finsh. Or you could get a changeout head and bondo that on.. Both are viable options...

Good luck...

thanks

Thanks for the help. Iam actually adding 1/4to1/2 to the muzzle the forms are to short but I guess adding to will work the same.Just want to make sure i didnt end up with a deer that looks like an anteater.I have mounted a few deer now but I have never altered a form. Thanks again

I wouldnt fret about that small of a difference. Taxi Dermy = moving skin. Mount it up and position it nicely. Shrinking will take care of the rest.
