Drying period

There is a drying period that the skull / antlers have to go through before being officially scored. I don't think you'll want to leave the un-skinned head laying about for 60 days before you can score the rack.

B and C

I think they meant the B and C neck measurements.Yes you can take them before skinning but you better subtract an inch or two for hair.

try this

If you are not 100% sure about taken the measurements you need, and you never want to be wrong, buy yourself afew forms, all different sizes from 17 to 22 neck size .If you try them on a form after skinning them out you will know what size form you need .example,if you think you have a 22 inch neck try it on a 22 inch form,if its alittle tight then you know its a 21,or if its to big its a 23,same thing with the eye to nose.its not easy to take proper measurements with the hair on or off,it comes with time.

just measure nose to eye

Just measure nose to eye before skinning, and measure the neck once you get the hide back from the tannery and rehydrated. Then you know it will fit whatever form you order.

I Agree

with Drew! If you order 3 forms everytime you order a form then you better build a warehouse!(LOL) Peace- Jeff F.

You only need afew forms to keep in your shop not a warehouse.what drew said is good if you use a long incison ,but will not be to good if you use a short one.

I disagree

I do use a short t incision. When it's back from the tannery I rehydrate, sweat overnight, stretch, measure, and throw it back in the freezer. I never have any problems with this method. Truth. Jeff F.

P.S.

This response submitted by Jeff F. on 10/15/04 at 3:17 PM. ( ) 64.12.116.134

The b&c form measurements are taken(hair on),recorded and then signed by my customer on the contract to avoid the "I thought it was bigger" syndrome. Jeff F.

I can only laugh with your response. I think back and I ended up ordering 3 different forms before I got my first deer to fit.(LMAO) Oh well! Peace- Jeff F.
