Just wondering if anyone out there has tried or currently uses the rubber eye capsules for deer made by Van Dyke's. I tried a set a few days ago with good results. It just got very frustrating to mold my eyelids like i wanted out of clay then have them messed up when i pulled the cape over.

I am new to taxidermy, but like the Synchron Eyes.
Most people here will tell you to learn to set your own eyes......and I plan on it. But, while I'm learning the many techniques required to complete a deer mount, a little help every now and then doesn't hurt.
after you slide your cape on the do clay work.
The face can be pulled towaard the rear in most cases then your eyes can be set and sculpted. hope this helps. ( its only as hard as you make it stop think and walk through it. )
I use plastic eye guards that screw into place where the antlers go. I use the short incision on my dear, and these are very helpful. After you set the eyes, screw them into place, then pull the cape on. Once it is in place, just remove the screwa, pull the eye guards out, and you are good to go.........with no messed up clay work!
I believe I purchased the eye guards at Research Mannicans.
You can cut pieces of milk cartens (plastic) and make your oun guards
