Dating an old Mount

My husband recently purchased an old deer head mount at a yard sale and we would like to know if there is a way we can determine how it is. It's in quite poor condition and a type of straw was used and I believe some type of pink waxy cardboard for the inside of the ears.

Any guesses as to how it this might be?

Though the barrier paper and excelsior hint that it might have been before the 1950's sometime, that's hardly proof. MANY taxidermists used that medium up into the 60's. If it was before 1950, that leaves a huge window of opportunity from the 1800's up till then. That's why I say that taxidermy has grown more in the last 30 years than it did in the last 200.

An Apology and a Thank You

I want to apologize for the wording of the title of my original question. I guess I should have thought about it more before I submitted it. I do want to thank George for his response which has helped alot. My husband was saying it had to be in the 1800's and I disagreed so I thought I'd ask some experts on this forum to settle the argument.
Again my humble apologies for crass title.
