I had a guy ask me to tighten up a couple of stitches in his deer mount i did for him a few years back. He had no complaints but as i was at his house caping another deer to mount he just asked me to take it along and touch it up. Well i was just wondering if you guys ever have problems with mounts that go to wood burning homes. They are EXTREMELY dry! I can't possibly dry my mounts enough to keep them from shrinking a little, since i mount in my basement. He wasn't unhappy but what else can i do. I have seen mounts that were done by excellent taxidermists get almost 'eaten' because they were placed ove wood burning stoves. Is this a legitimate issue or should i be getting a dehumifier and changing my ways. I do have to say this was the fifth deer i had ever mounted and i was still a rookie, so the sewing job might not have been the best and i liked to get my mounts out to the client asap so i might have rushed it a little. But do you suppose i was totally in the wrong?

I have a dehumidifier I run at full blast 24/7 here in my shop(in the basement) might do you some good to get 1 also....
I know what you are talking about with the wood burners/fireplaces..
Had a guy I did a deer head for a few yrs ago put his over the fireplace.
Took a while but it started losing the hair pretty bad. Heard about it through the grapevine that his wife was bad mouthing MY work and not to take anything to me because I wouldn't replace it and stand by my work.
In my contract the customer signs a waiver that I am not resonsible for bad field handling and ect.
but that wasnt the cause for the hair loss .....it was being hung over the fireplace......long story short I got ahold of them and explained it to HIM that it cant be hung that close to the fireplace.
We did work a deal out and it was remounted.
BY the way STICK A FORK IN US WE R DONE.........LOST TO BCLUW 28-6
We still have WACO next weekend so maybe we can spoil their perfect conference record hahaha....
TTYL buddy,
Jeff
i wasn't the only who had ever had problems with this.
Yeah our run is over too. Got beat by the referees at grinnell last night. I hear WACO is going strong, it would be nice to see you beat them though! :) There is always next year! I can't believe how many really good teams there are in 1A though. You had your work cut out for you.
I have heard stories of guys bringing mounts from back east to a western show and having them dry out and messing up their piece. I know that the climate in western Colorado is drier than the climate on the eastern plains and sometimes they dry out opening up stitches etc when going to the western part of the state. Cannot really control those variables.
