I have a question about using krowtann. I just recieved a piebald buck from a customer. Along with the shoulder mount he also wanted me to make a rug out of the hide. The question is after I tan the hide will I need to put an oil on it to keep it from drying out? And if so what kind to you recommend. Any advice would be helpful.

I have never done a rug before but I do use Krowtann and I was always under the impression that to do a rug you had to break the hide as well as oil it. I am not sure that just oiling it will keep it soft without breaking the hide. Hope this helps

I tanned 2 deer hides last year with Krowtann. It was my 1st season to use the product. I also ordered the Krow Oil, made by Ozark Woods. I got great results. Oiled and tugged for about 10 minutes a night for 4 days. Then threw it in the tumbler for 45 mintues with an old pair of tennis shoes. Customer was pleased with the results, and so was I.

I use the Krow oil on them. The ones I have done, turned out nice and they did not need a lot of breaking. BP
