What can I do

I just took in a "pig" of a deer. There is a big problem though...........the cape was cut to within a foot of the throat patch, there was a big bullet hole in the side of the neck, and they tied a rope around the neck to hang it. The bullet hole and cut brisket are one thing.......but the damage done to the cape from hanging by the neck ruined the cape.

The deer measures 8 x 22 1/2 x 20 x 28 (at the biggest part of the neck) This neck has two "backstraps" on the front of it. Where in the world will I ever find a cape to replace the damaged one?

I've never seen a neck any bigger than this one...............WOW!

The only capes I know off that are that big are from up north. Was this a northern deer or southern? This would be important due to the thickness and length of hair on the cape.

You can find capes this big, but they will cost you a pretty penny. I would say about $150 on up plus shipping. There are dealers listed in the back of Breakthrough who sell big capes. Or post here in the wanted category. You may get lucky and someone has one.

Good luck in your search.

really?

im from illinois. maybe i take those neck measurements for granted. because a 20x22 in neck is common here. you shouldnt have any trouble replacing a cape that size.

i even had one exceptionally large 2 1/2 yr old buck that took a 20x221/2 inch form. it isnt often that you get a 200lb field dressed 2 year old deer.

hell, i even had a buck last year that took a 24 1/2x 28 form last year. and ill mention that ben mears was the only one who had anything close to fitting.

Yes......

It is an Illinois buck. The "A" "B" and "C" measurements were of average proportion for a BIG deer in this area. The "D" measurement is a different story though. I could cut the muscles off the throat and pass them off as back straps.

I check the big capes that I have and the closest "D" measurement is 24". I'm just gonna' have to keep an eye out for one.
