I shot a buck saturday, and want to do a european mount. I have removed the cape, eyes, tongue, and most of the meat. I don't know the best way to remove the brains, and clean it up from there......what can I do next?

BOIL IT !

Cut as much meat as you can ,place the skull in a pot that it fits into, then put some dawn dish soap into it it helps with the grease. but don't put antlers in to the boiling water <as it begins to boil check the meat will seprerate from the bone, cut what you can with a knife and use a wire wheel for the rest that you might have problems with, also note that the front of the face were the nose and septum was will pull away but when finished you can super clue these pieces back toghether (brains will boil out as will the eyes etc.) Then what i do is take enough water to cover the clean skull 5-10% bleach in water ,and making sure that the antlers do not get in the water i do this so it gets disinfeceted maybe about 20 miniutes or so.
Then once dry I take the white frosting that women use on there hair paint entire skull and again making sure that you don't get it on the antlers ,and leave it set for 12 or so hours then rise and let dry. There are many ways other taxidermist do this this way works well for me maybe to well . LOL

Look up maceration in the archives here.

Then go to hidetanning.net and read Evelyn Mills article on skull cleaning.

Don't boil it

this is about the worst method to use on skulls (if you want them done right that is). Go to hidetanning.net like Raven suggested and read up on the different methods. Then you can always decide for yourself which one you like best. Educate yourself first on the subject before you do it.

to a pro and pay a few bucks to have it done right. Or throw the head to the dogs to save on food for them.

NOW you see why we stress the archives?

I know, it works for him, but watch what happens if the poor info doesnt work for others...
