Ok I need some help. I've caped and flshed a few whitetails now, about 10. Every time I try to turn and flesh the nose it doenst seem to come out right. I'm not sure what Im doing wrong. I can get it turned for the most part pretty well, but when I try to get the cartilage off and flesh the nose It seems that I always get hole and dont have much nose skin left. I got a video from research, and the guy in that video didnt even do anything to the nose beside turn it. He didnt take the cartilage off or anything. I was wondering if I have to do that now before it gets tanned, and if so is there anyone that can help me or point me in the tright direction for some help. PS I did a bear the other day too and had the same problem, but I think for that I will use a repro nose. Thanks for any help.

You should wait until the cape is tanned. Then after you hydrate the cape it is easy to remove the cartilage, it just fleshes right off if you use a narrow beam of some sort and a sharp knife.
I just split the nose, open it up all the way to the edges and cut off the extra cartilage.
