Thawing of Frozen Deer Head

I have been having problems getting my deer heads to thaw out evenly. Usually when a frozen head is brought to me the hide is all rolled up around the head, especially right below the ears and around the neck. Because of the insulating effect of the hide the rest of the deer seems to always to thaw out much faster than the rolled up hide and neck area. Trying to cape out these frozen sections is very slow and increases the chances of cutting through the hide. I presently hang the frozen head with a fan blowing on it and leave for 4-6 hours. My shop temperature is about 60 degrees. I'm afraid if I leave the head hanging until this neck area thaws I may start to get damage to the other, faster thawing sections of the head. My questions is.....is there any way to get a more even thawing of the head? Also, if I do leave it hanging for another two hours (total of 8 hours) will I risk slippage? Thanks you, Jim

You are risking it the way you discribe

mix up a pickle or just a tub of salt water and throw the entire head in it, they will be thawed enough to skin faster than you will believe.

Or, let it thaw

in the reefer. This way the areas that thaw out the fastest will stay nice and cool while the other areas have a chance to thaw out.
