I just discovered the forum a few weeks ago! I was going through the archives and stumbled across the Lysol discussions. I've been custom mounting deer horns for the past 5 years, and after retiring decided to try mounting a deer head. Got the Sallie Dahme's video and Breakthrough book, where it says to use Lysol. I have already caped, cleaned with WASCO Skin Prep+Lysol and rinsed in Bollmann's Ultra Tight and put it in the freezer. Should I wash it in a bactericide when I remove it from the freezer? Or just hope for the best? Thanks in advance...I have gotten a lot of great information from the forum...I've read so much I'm gettin' cross-eyed.

Like a lot of other things in this industry, "bacteriacide" is just a buzz word. No fresh hide, properly cared for and preserved correctly should ever need to worry about bacteria. Unless you plan on letting it rot a few days before you start, the bacteriacide won't do any good on EITHER END. Just disregard the step.
Remember! everyone has a product to sell. Like George said a good quality fresh cape needs no aid in the bacteria fight. Just get it free of flesh and turn everything good and get it tanned. Good luck to you.
Can be picked up from skinning tables as well as from your hands, using bacteriacides on a fresh skin is never over work, but a precaution.
I always add a couple capfuls of lysol concentrate to my pickle solution as a precaution, but if the skin is taken care of properly to begin with there won't be a problem. good luck!
