preserving deer hides

Greetings and Happy Holidays!
My husband and I are avid WhiteTail Deer hunters and want to utilize our harvest as much as possible. We would like to keep the hides of these beautiful creatures to either send off for something to be made, hang on the wall, or maybe when my sewing skills improve( ha ha ) I will make a throw etc... What is the best way to clean the hides free of any blood, dirt etc... and the easiest way to tan them but keep them fairly pliable? Do they have to be in a special temp. to dry properly? Many Thanks,
Ellie

Send them off

go bring them by your local taxidermist and let him/her handle this. That's what taxidermists do for a living and you'll get the best results this way.

No easy way

Please do as Evelyn suggest, there is no easy way to do it for a first timer. There are kits for home tanning, but you may go through a few deer hides before you get it right. And you don't want to waste them.
