game farm antlers

a guy gave me a few pairs of some whitetail antlers from his deer herd. anyways on a few he cut the bases right off, on the ones where there wasn't much of the bases cut off i was able to use apoxie scuplt and rebuild the burr no problem. however on the couple that he cut an inch below the brow tine there is going to be a need to rebuild the whole base which would require alot of sculpt. my question is can i put some sort of filler let it dry then put a thin coat of apoxie over that and detail it to remake the burrs. if so what would i use as a filler? i was thinking bondo, but not sure how to shape it to match the rest of the base and burr or how to secure it to the base where it was cut off. any ideas?

Mix up some bondo and then apply to the wire or whatever armature you have fixtured to the beam. Wrap a piece of plastic food wrap around the bondo and shape it to contour. Plastic wrap will not stick to Bondo and your hands will stay clean. When Bondo cures to rubbery stage, remove plastic wrap and rasp off any irregularities while the Bondo is still fairly soft. Use the epoxy clay of choice over the bondo to detail.

I think the poster meant that if the antlers had been cut from living deer, then you get the bases when they dropped. I figure the bases were cut off for knife handles or such.
