I got a phone call from a past boss. He said his deer head fell off the wall and the left main beam broke off at the base. I guess it was not achored into a stud in the wall. He said it broke off at the base as if it was a shed. I have been doing taxidermy for 3 seasons now and have not done any repair like this. How do I go about fixing it? Thx Eddie

Eddie, I would drill out a 1/2" hole down through the skull plate into the top of the form. Drill another hole into center of antler base about 2" deep. Get square tubing that will slip into the skull plate hole and a piece of all threaded rod (hammered square to fit tightly into the square tubing) this goes into the antler. When everything lines up, bondo all parts and slip together. This is similar to the set up for doing a detachable antler except you just bondo it all together for a solid repair. Enjoy, Aaron H.
Thx alot Aaron
Sooner or later a customer will bring one to you that had the same thing happen after shooting the deer. Antler comes off as the deer hits the ground or when they grab and pull on it.
