Skull Boiling - Imbedded Tissue

Submitted by Mickela on 1/14/05 at 9:30 PM. ( ) 4.164.57.238

Good Day,
I searched the achives and found directions for boiling my son's first deer skull. I used Fabricare, which was recommended and boiled/simmered the skull for 30 min. It was completly submerged. The meat and other tissue came off easily, but I have had a problem getting the tissue out of the bottom/back of the skull. Is that normal? My husband always did this for his deer and I just wanted my son to carry on the tradition after his father's passing.

I guess my question is how do I remove the remaining tissue? Should I boil it again? The tissue seems to stuck in the bone.

Thank You Very Much

throw it in a bucket of water

and let it rot off the rest of the way. pond water seems to work better than household water.

Boil it longer next time

If you live anywhere like ohio the water solution is out...it will just freeze. That is unless you keep it in your house...that's a bad idea...trust me. I would just let it dry for a little bit and scrape the remainder off. This is always a problem area but boiling it a little longer will help next time.

Thank You

Thamk You for the responses. The brain and everything came out of the skull, it was just all the attached material in the grooves and crevices of the bottom/bak of the skull.
Have a Nice Day
