I have read the archives but would still like to know other alternatives if any on how to sharpen scissors. Can anyone help? Do they actually make a scissor sharpener?

Some of the knife sharpeners that have a plastic handle and a carbide "V" that you drag over the knife edge, also have a place for sharpening your scissors.I have one that works really well by just drawing the scissor edge over it 3 or 4 times.I even use it on tiny iris scissors.Mine has a yellow handle with a guard that protects the fingers. It is made by Smith's and doesn't have a model number.I got it at a local sporting good store. This is probably the most economical way. There are electric ones too,but more expensive.
I have one in my shop and it runs about $200 when complete. It's a 1 inch belt sander with a guide/protractor/clamp that is made for sharpening the edge much like an ice skate sharpener. I use only the belt sander on mine for knives, but there is a scissor attachment. I take my shop scissors to a professional and I don't let ANYONE use them.
I dont use scissors day to day, or on specimens, just to cut stuff in general, so I might not need them as exact as some other usages, but...I just get out my sharpening steel and "cut" it with the scissors. Yep, just use the scissors along the length of the steel, opening and closing them. It works! Youll feel a certain angle where it "grabs" better. I think someone told me this recently, but I tried it, and it does work!
I have sharpened them but you only 'steel' on the outside edges, never hone the cutting edge.
Im not sure how that goes, as it makes contact where anything being cut makes contact, and the scissors wind up sharp. Youre probably correct, but Im not sure why it works for me!
