Couple of questions. Before I get started, I have already checked the archives and didn't find an exact answer for my question. So here goes. I have just purchased some eppley butt-less earliners and on my WT cape I remove the cartilage down to the beginning of the butt(not sure of the proper name). When I use the liners with the butts that piece of cartilage pops right into the base of the liner, so on a butt-less I am not exactly sure on what to do. Do you drill a hole in the center of the liner in order to put a steel rod into the form? Lastly do you remove any material out the form where the ear would connect to the form or do you just build a clay ear base? Thank you in advance. Todd.

What way you want the ears back or foraward. I would dig the foam out a little and and when you build your ear muscles out of clay make sure that you get some in the hole. Using reference build your ear butts. But thats another class it takes about three golf ball size ,balls of clay to build the upper lower and fronatl muscles but then you need to consider the skull cap you rebuilt and blend the muscle to the skull . gte yourself some refernce material pictures and McKenzies cast ear will help you out. If you have not done ear butts beforte might be good to get a video on deer mounting. to show you make sure you blend the muscles to the ear liner. for the inner ear test fit then see where the skin lays and figure where you need to cut it off on the inside where it will meet the lower ear area should be able to tuck it right there. Now if this sound confusing it should be if you have never done it and have no reference to do so. Good luck.
