Antler Repair

I have a question concerning painting an antler repair. I checked the archives, but didn't find what I was looking for. I have an antler with a tine broken off at the base, a relatively easy repair, but I'm not sure about the painting part. The antler is cream-white color with grays and tans throughout. I'm sure I can match the colors, but need to know if I should put a clear coat over the color. I've done repairs on small chips and made a tine by itself,(not on an antler, just to see if I could) but never anything that I had to do this much painting on. I'm concerned about the paint being worn off by handling. Hope my rambling makes sense. Thanks, Greg

I've tried both, but I've found a new friend it's antler-sculpt and it's the best matching 2 part sculpt I've found to date. On some repairs, I didn't need to tint it at all it was such a good match. I got it from a ebay user: allfixepoxy , just do a search on antler sculpt. good luck

How to Color Match Antler

I just did my first antler repair using Apoxie Sculpt, but am a bit unsure about how to get it to match the coloration of the rack. I tried some brown antler stain, but it doesn't look natural at all. The color of the rack is a grayish brown with a light greenish tint. It looks similar to partially decayed flesh on a bone that has been outside in the weather for a while.

What combination of colors and types of paints or dyes should I use to get the color right?

Thanks,
BREW
