I've received a number of phone calls about a Taxidermist in the
area that people are still waiting for their deer mounts! Can you believe this? Now the question is this. Their picking up these mounts and want me to do them AFTER 3years of waiting. What would YOU do? What will the condition of the hides be in after this period of time and I really don't know what to tell them... What's your advise on this.

take a look at the capes first before you agree to mount them. You dont want to get yourself in a jam.If the capes were wrapped up good there shouldnt really be a problem.Just make sure there in a good enough condition to make a quality mount. The last thing you need is to have the mount turn out looking bad with your name on it.

Well........

If it were me in your spot, I think I would have them bring them to ya and look at each individually. U have no idea what your getting into till you see what you have to work with. If the skins have all been dry tanned and just hangin around in his shop and you have the antlers n all, I would go for it. but if the skins have been green in the freezer in the green state for 3 yrs, i wouldn't make any promises. The best way is to be completly honest with the customer and let them know you can't be responsible for the skins being neglected for 3 years. Honesty is the best policy. After you explain it to them, they will understand what your up aginst.
C, ya and good luck,
Lance!

Thanks Lance...... yup, they're in the green state. Maybe I'll just pass on this one, I'll check on a few and then decide? Oh boy.....

is what we do no matter if its a case like yours or if the hunter has keep the deer in the freezer for years. We tell them upfront we will have to look at the hide and then we can let them know if the cape is no good. If the cape is no good we will sell them a replacement cape. Be most of the time the capes are good if they have been wrapped good.
We also tell our guys if you dont know if you are going to mount it or not to bring it to us when they kill it and we will cape it out for them. If we keep the cape in our freezer then no charge if they take the cape with them then we charge them $25. We tell them we will keep the cape for 2 months if we dont hear from them the the cape is ours. But if they have the deer mount by us within that time we will take the $25 off the price. This has worked out good for us because they get caped out right and the wrapped right.

Don't forget to get a deposit

Don't forget to get a deposit. There is always two sides to every story. The long wait may be because the customers never came up with a deposit in the first place.

how good

How good are the ears? Seems like that area is the first to freezer burn and cause a headache.
