tear ducts

Ok, here it goes. First off I have browsed through the archives and couldn't find what I am looking for. I mounted a whitetail for the world show the other day and everything looks good but the tear ducts did separate just alittle. When I say alittle I mean you probably cannot get a hint of apoxie in there to finish them. The shape is perfect but I can't leave that little gap for the world show and expect to do well can I? Any finishing techniques for comp would greatly be appreciated.

I've competed enought to know your concerns...Tear ducts are not awlays colsed...in fact its been my experience (observing live deer in a pen) that they most often are somewhat open. IF it were me, I would use lacquer based paint. Cut it with acetone, (so that its very thin)mixed in the color cup, then spay it to get the color flowing through the brush, remove the cup from the brush, them spray the tear ducts. You should see mostly acetone spraying out. This will leave flesh tones that SHOULD look as if its coming from the skin side out.You may want to try this on something other that your slaved over mount first. I'm just stateing what has worked for me in the past.

Trapper hit it.

Some of the worst tear ducts a beginner does, is closer to the most of what you will see in live deer.

I could stick the end of my thumb in many and never touch the side.
