I recently posted a message on this forum about using masking tape and super glue gel for repairing holes. I wasnt entirely happy with the results, it seemed like it was lacking in strength. I recently started using a different type of tape with surprisingly good results. The tape is green in color and is designed to adhere to "hard to stick surfaces". I believe it is made by SCOTCH but I am not positive. When the repair job is done you can not pull the tape off the cape. The only way I could re-open the hole was by slicing it...... I have picked up some helpful tips on this forum, just thought I would return one. Thanks everyone!

What type repairs are you refering to? bullet holes need to be cut out and sewn up. Ears that have been torn can be glued back togther with a dryer sheet. I am not sure leaving tape inside a cape would be a good thing or not. Would the hide paste stick to it if needed. Say the repair was on the face where adhesion is critical. Just wondering is all. Try pipe fitting tape with superglue gel for holes or tears in ears. Its fairly strong but thin.
I trim bullet holes to about 3 or 4 inches, glue and tape and I cant re-open the hole with-out tearing the tape. I was wrong when I said SCOTCH tape.I checked it this morning and saw it was 3M. I also use this method on torn ears. For me it works great. Every one has their own methods. Give it a try on a left over piece of cape. You might be surprised. Im always open to new methods, the taxidermy industry is always changing and I like to change along with it. Old school is fine for some but its not for me.
