I do several deer capes every year for various people and i charge 150.00 per cape. Wet tanned and ready to mount, all prep work included.

$40 now for me to do it, and a few do-it-yourselfers still come back every year. This includes caping, fleshing and turning ears, splitting the lips and salt drying and documenting measurements. I have about 2 hrs. wrapped up in it by the time I'm done... Might go to $50 this year..
.
your loss my gain. I get several guys each year dropping off a raw cape, wanting it ready to mount when they get it back. If their willing to pay im willing to charge.

I can't knock that number of $150, all the customer has to do then is buy the form, ears, eyes, panel, glue, clay, needle, cape thread and some paint and he can butcher up a deer mount for maybe around $250... I do my process every year for this one guy and he mounts his own. And I've seen every one of his mounts and I shake my head... but he doesn't care.
$125.00 for skinning and tanning of a cape to be mounted elsewhere. My feeling is I do not want to be bothered with this small piece of work anyway, so if I have to I am going to charge for it. Besides, If the other taxidermist is really good he should know how to do this initial process and should not get the benefit of my time and experience for cheap.
Drop us an email if we can help. We are a full time prep servive. We do around 1000 skins a year. Our price for a deer cape is $25.00.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any tanneries around Rochester MN, was looking to have some hides tanned. Thanks for any response.
