slipping while in a pickle

I had a deer cape that I salted, shave and then put in a pickle. It was in the pickle for 5 days. When I nuturalized it I noticed that it was slipping. Can the bacteria grow while in the pickle?

All depends what your PH was at. Did you check it. A PH of 1.5 to 2.0 bacteria can't grow. How long did you neutralized the cape. Too many varibles you didn't mention.

Salt then shave?

Rough flesh, then salt, then re-hydrate, then pickle three days, shave then pickle one day, then neutralize (and ya I know, thats been said a million times)!

I don't know how you shaved after it was salted hard. Did you shave the hair roots off? No, bacteria won't grow in a pickle solution if your PH is below 2.0. If it relly is slipping, it's because it was bad to begin with. My .02 worth.
