How much sal soda for cleaning a skull

Not sure on the water to sal soda ratio! Can anyone help?

I use a good cupful per skull. Doesn't seem to matter if i am only using a few gallons or doing a large skull (like buffalo or elk etc.) where i use a lot of water in a very large tank.

What's the benefit?

I ask that having no background in this stuff. I have done 4 skulls recently, all just by boiling, picking, brushing etc. Used basic white and peroxide at the end and got very white results. So what does the soda do? Will it help with those pesky nasal cavities?
