? on earliners

I was just wondering if pre-formed earliners with earbutts can be heated and repositioned, I have a set of Brad Eppley liners (alert) and want them laid back a little more, I know it would be easier to just use buttless earliners but I am a beginner and trying to get all the info I can.

They was working with a buttless earliner the best I could tell, I think I will go ahead and try the hot water trick with the earliners I have, all I will lose is $6 and a little time if it doesn't work. I think I can also cut the earbut of the side of the head, I'm using Rinehart forms and the earbut on the McKenzie forms look slanted back toward the neck, this may help getting the desired position I'm wanting. I'm going to order liners w/o butts next timeand try them. I have read that you only need a golfball sized amount of clay for each ear, is that for earliners with or without butts? Thanks for any input.
