Just read a thread about "Nobody liking DP". For someone just getting into taxidermy, would it be the way to start? Just to get your feet wet, or is it taboo? Sure, it takes less time and less attention to detail(so to speak), but can using DP method give someone a good foundation to learn the basics and keep them interested and experiment with tanning?

In fact there are many that have made lots of money using nothing esle, so don't sell it short. You will still have to learn how to flesh, split lips, turn ears, and clean nostrils out. I would recommend that you start on small game first (they're usually easier to come by such as in "road kill") and then work up to deer class. When you get to deer, you should have a basic knowlege of techinques and then you should consider learning about tanning or at least sending your hides off to be tanned.
On this site, you'll find all degrees of skill levels and experience. You'll find the really nice people who'll tell you just what you want to know, you'll find grouchy asses like me, and you'll also find jerks that don't have a clue. Only you can learn which ones to listen to and which ones to avoid. But if you have a question, try that SEARCH icon first. Most everything you could ever need is already in print somewhere in that archive. Best of luck.
