For those of you who have tumblers, what is the make and model number of the motor. I am building a tumbler and need to decide on a motor.
Thanks!

I have a 30 RPM gear reduction motor on mine
My small one has a dryer motor....my other one has a 1.5 hp 1725 rpm 220 motor. Driving a 40:1 gear box of course,
I got a good used gear motor from Friesen Electric Ebay store for 50 bucks. I had the start and run capacitors replaced and had to gear it down somewhat but I only spent 150 bucks on the sprockets, motor, capacitors, and chain. I built the rest. Gear motors and gear boxes can get incredibly expensive. It helps also to have welding skills to fabricate the spindle drives.
I forgot to mention that the size of the tumbler makes all the difference in the motor size. What size tumbler and for what purpose? Tumbling birds? Tumbling to soften hides?
We just use an old dryer. Took out the heating element and took
the cover off. Bondo up the holes. Works great been using it for
15 years. Cost $50.00
Skinner, I hope you aren't telling him he can break hides in a dryer? From reading his message that is posted under DEER I assume he is tumbling DEER hides for softness. A dryer absolutely will not work.
Very true. My mistake. I wasnt thinking about tanned hides, just
the ones for DP,since thats all we do. AGAIN MY MISTAKE
