Scared up whitetail cape

Submitted by Jared on 4/6/05 at 1:25 PM. ( )

I just mounted a whitetail that is all scared up. He has scares on his face and all over his neck. My question is can I maybe mist some paint on these areas when I do my finish work so they don't look so bad ? I wanted to replace the cape, but the customer did not want me to.

You are on the right track I think. I use a chocolate brown color to do what you are describing. As long as they are little areas. If they are big patches of missing hair you are going to need to patch then with fur from a donor cape. Only do this if the client is paying for it.

you should be able to cut any bare spots out in the shape of a foot ball and sew them back up with out doing any patch work. The only time I patch anything is in very extream circumstances. card the area after it is mounted and use hair gel if it needs it and tap it flat with a hammer after it is dry mist it with color if it needs it but it shouldnt.

You should have fixed it before mounting it...

You should have done all repair work before mounting it.
