i used bondo a few times, sets up to fast for me. i went to earliners. the cartilage removal gets easier w/experience. i get a nice ear w/ liners. some people use bondo w/ excellent results. the question is what will work for you. try the bondo method with an epoxy instead of bondo like magic ears or somthing like that. you get more wrking time.
When the white block appears, type in "Bondo vs earliners". There are already 33 threads that explain this in great detail.
I think the major benefits of using bondoed ears is it is faster since you don't have to removed the cartilage, and it is cheaper because you don't have to buy earliners.
The downside is, they are hard to make look right, and cartilage can curl over time, also, they are not as durable as a plastic earliner.
Earliners produce a better ear for most people, the downside is you have to remove the cartilage, and you have to pay for earliners.
you can get it a little thinner than bondo and it will not drum period
Drew, the only reason the cartiladge would curl is if the ears are not turned completely. How can they be hard to make them look right? You conform the bondo to the existing shape of the cartiladge and pay attention to your reference.
I see a lot of bondoed ears that don't look right, they are either flat, or too thick. Not sure why you would even have to ask that question, I even see ears done with earliners that are jacked up, and they are a lot easier to work with for a beginner.
I have had better luck with the bondo method with no problems or complaints.
