i used to have that problem, now i use Epo-Grip around the burrs, works great, no pulling once it dries. re-hydrate the hide around the burrs pull it back into place and super glue, or Epo-Grip.
Rehidrate skin at the base of the antlers with a wet towel reglue area ,taxi skin into place then use 2"nails nailed through the hide into the bone area and let dry, nails will hold the skin in place til it is dry.
Hi Jay,
Some things I do are as follows -
1) Make sure the hide is thinned enough in this area so it doesn't shrink so much.
2) I use the Polytranspar 2 part Epoxy - WASCO has it - around the antler burr. You don't need a whole lot and try not to get it on the hair. You can wash it out with laquer thinner if you do.
3) Make sure the hide is pushed up good and tight against the burr and sew it tight.
4) Try the nail trick. I use #3 finish nails around the antler burr nailed into the bone. Let it stay until dry.
Hope this helps.

The problem is you probably have the distance from the eye to the antler burr too big. In the future, screw the skull down and then test fit the cape over the face of the form and test fit the flap of skin over the forehead. Lay everything out nice and then check for gaps around the burrs. You should have a little extra skin to account for shrinkage. If the distance is too big then either cut the skull and slide it forward, or cut the form and slide it forward. You also need to check the vertical alignment. If the skull cap is sitting up too high on the form there will also be a gap.
Once you know this distance is correct, then use a good hide paste around the pedicles. If the hide fits correctly, then you don't even need to nail it in place.
I shave the hide around the antlers very thin. I put a glob (resivior) of Buckeye hide glue between the eyes, then after sewing the short incision closed, I push the glue back between the antler bases all the way back between the ears. Then I use super glue around the edge of the angler base to lock the hide to the bone. Never had one pull free since using this technique.
