I just purchased a Whitetail cape and it was fleshed and salted and I am in a hurry is it ok to soak it to make it pliable again and then dry preserve it? Please let me know..Thanks so much

Sam Touchstone always said that if you showed him a salted hide to be dry preserved, he'd show you a piece of trash. The salt has permeated the skin and no amount of washing is going to remove all of it from the skin. Salt works similar to DP, but does not allow the DP to work where it is already situated. A salted hide should be tanned. IMHO only a fresh/green hide can be dry preserved.
