Elmers Glue

Is Elmers glue suitable for repairing some minor damage on a form? When I was altering my shoulder form and cutting slits in the nose to add my speed septums, the top part of one of the nostrils broke off accidentally. I am thinking I could use some type of glue to fix it and I could stick a pin through both parts so that it can dry without falling off again.

Bondo

is the only thing I would consider for the type of repair you mention. You can pin it after applying the bondo and never have to worry about the glue coming loose.

Well, I'd never use Bondo

Epoxy or foam are the only true adhesives for foam products. Still, I wouldn't use either of them if the chips were small. I'd use Apoxie and rebuild the entire piece OR fill the whole nose with foam and resculpt.

Bondo or a little epoxy should do it. If your in a hurry, go with the bondo.

Super glue will bond foam to foam very well. A little kick-it spray will make te repair instant.

Gorilla Glue. I use it for most all form repair work. Only use small amounts though as it is a type of foam and will expand as it dries. I usually pin the pieces until it dries then nip the pins off at the base of the form.

Elmers Glue will soften with reapplication of moisture...

therefore it is not a top choice in repairing anything where moisture will be a factor. In my opinion, I would not use it because of this. Bondo will work as will foam for repairing forms. The small repair you are refering to would be best repaired with a non-water soluable glue like Gorilla glue, Super glue, zap-a-gap, any fast set two-part epoxy glue. Or Bondo, but why mix up a such a small amount when these other glues are better.

George, you might never use Bondo for foam repairs but I've actually had foam forms break in new places next to Bondo repairs leaving the Bondo repair untouched, which means it is stronger than the original foam. I feel there is a place for everything and Bondo will repair foam forms if done correctly. I would not use it for glueing smooth pieces together like a pronghorn antelope horn to the horn sheath.

my 2 cents

I have used bondo as well. But I'm not a 1 solution kind of guy. Magic Smooth as a glue in this case works great. Apply like glue to the surface, pin and let dry for 30 minutes or so. I think it works better than bondo for these small repairs. I use Bondo on bigger attachment jobs but only because of $$$ difference.

Iv'e tried elmers for simular repairs and it just want dry. It needs air to dry and the foam prevents the air from getting to the glue. And as Craig said, it will re-hydrate.
