Just wondering how many deer heads that you taxidermists get in a year and what the ratio of deer heads to horn mounts are?

76 deer head mounts plus a couple dozen antler plaques. not to mention aver 125 birds and over50 on the small game, then there is the fish and novelty items oh ya any big game this year ranged in the 25 for a one girl shop I think that is plenty.
I am a fulltime firefighter that does taxidermy in my spare time. I just started and Oct 1st will complete my first year.
In my first year I did 22 deer mounts, a bear rug, 4 coyote shoulder mounts, a lifesize badger, 2 squirrels, and 4 fish.
I still have a coyote rug, 4 deer heads, 6 ducks, 3 geese, 2 turkeys, a lifesize fox, a few fish and 5 lifesize black bears to do.
Where are you located. You must be in a real good spot. Thats alot of work for your first year, Im not saying you are a liar by any means, just wated to say congrats on all the work when your just starting out. This is my first year also. Ive gotten in 11 deer heads, 2 black bear (one rug, other life-size), 1 gray fox, 1 turkey, 1 pheasant, 1 crow, and 2 fish. Hope to take in more this coming year.
I work a full time management job and still turn out about 175 mounts a year, deer, pheasant, small mammal, skull, etc.
I am surprised to at the amount of work I took in the first year....especially since I didn't advertise. I was planning on doing mounts for friends only but ended up taking in several from people I didn't know. Word travels fast I guess.
I do have one advantage though....there is only one guy in town processing deer and he was dropping my name to certain people. This year I will advertise a little.
Our shop took in around 240 deer heads & 20 full mount deer; 20-30 coyotes for full mount & around 12 shoulder mts; about 25 bobcats to full mount &about 5 shoulder mts; around ten full fox mounts & 3-4 shoulder mts;10-12 squirrels;around 60 fish; 25 or so turkey tails,feet and beard mounts(we don't do whole birds); and about 30 horn mounts. Our shop has 1 full-time taxidermist & 1 part-timer-ME (who also does all finish taxidermy and habitats,go-fer,do-fer, and maid,cook,and babysitter). I'm going to college at the same time-fall can get pretty rough though. But the main thang is that we both love practicing our craft!-Dixichick
