super glue question

Submitted by sandy on 6/29/05 at 2:47 PM. ( ) 209.128.248.43

I am mounting a deer whose ears are beat up from fighting. Normally when I bust through an ear or have to fix a hole I use super glue and a thin scrap piece of tanned hide or dryer sheet.

I just put a piece down and the glue won't stick. I have never had this problem and I don't know what the problem could be? I thought maybe there was residual oil on the ear so I wiped it down with some laquer thinner but the glue is still not sticking whether the ear is damp or dry.

Anyone know what the problem could be? This is the same bottle of glue I have been using. I am clueless. Any ideas are appreciated.

I think the glue went bad. It isn't sticking to anything at all.

Dry and clean

I have had that problem. In your case you said it was the glue itself. I know that sometimes the ears are extra oily so you have to really clean them with mineral spirits or acetone and blast them with the hairdryer.

I did..

Figure it out. Even when the glue was on my finger it wouldn't bond...It remained wet. Well I finished that deer regardless. I think that was the first deer that truly kicked my a$$. LOL. Thanks for the post anyway.
