question about eyes on dry tanned capes

Submitted by Matt on 7/11/05 at 10:26 PM. ( ) 216.93.97.72

I have 2 whitetail capes that i had tanned. It looks like a thin piece of skin where the color is around the lid is missing in spots. I do not believe it is missing hair around the eye just the color. So i do not believe this is epidermis slippage do to all the hair is still there. Do you guys know what i am talking about, it is hard to explain? Do some of you get this on your capes and just paint it when finished? Thanks

It could be from different thickness in your skin when you thinned it down to get a different color. I'm only guessing here, But when you have different shades in the eye, it's no real problem at all. What you do here is simple tome the eye with flesh and then paint with normal colors.

That is common with a lot of tanned capes. It is usually evident in front of the eyes near the crease to the duct. After the mount dries I always take a Q-tip with some acetone, clean the whole area then after it dries just airbrush it to match. No biggie.
