i see a few post lately on earliners. i tried the eppley earliners on a small buck i mounted. i would like to use these alot but they don't seem to be big enough for the deer in my area. i live in upstate ny right on the north/south border. i tried what george said (fit the skin to the liner) but i have to much skin. i talked to another taxidermist in my area & he also said they were to small for the deer in our area. do the deer ears vary that much? also, are there any other earliners out there like epplys that are larger that someone could let me in on. thanks so much for a great site.

buy the larger size...and if you did that use a quick setting epoxy, get it out to the edges, then card.
yes i know they make diff. sizes. small & med. they are still TOO SMALL-GET IT?
first off you need to learn some respect...by the way your coming at me and the smiplicity of this question I will assume your a beginer.
Ok....I'm pretty sure whitetails in your area haven't evolved to have ears the size of an elephant so use the biggest linner. Line up the ear and ear linner then work all your epoxy out to the edges of the ear, once this is done find some carding matterial and card the edges of the ear. If you would search around this site a little bit you would see that this method and sanding the edges of the linners are popular methods to get a nice crisp edge on the ear. use a good quick set epoxy like epo and you probally won't even have to card it.
Now let me know....DO YOU GET IT?
Have you tried Brad's large earliners ?
These are buttless and you can position them however you want.
You can get them form Eppley Brothers Taxidermy suppiles or Hilton Eppley Forms.
Especially for NEW YORK deer. The colder the climate the smaller deer's ears seem to be. The big Canadians use the mediums usually, HOWEVER, if I found that a medium DIDN'T FIT, I'd order the LARGE EARLINERS from Van Dykes, McKenzie, Research, Jonas, whomever. OR I'd convert to the Epo-Grip Ear Magic product.
Go ahead and you the good old Rinehart way, BONDO with the cartilage left in. What a joke!
