Ok, I'm trying to become more time efficent when doing whitetails. I'd like to hear the sequence of steps everyone goes through when (mounting only) a wet tanned WT cape, starting at thawing the tanned cape.
I'm pretty good with time management but hopefully there are some diffrent personal techniques or sequences that will save me some more time.
I'm not asking for something real specific, I don't need clay work details just a basic step process.

Thanks everyone,
Joe

After cape is thawed I try it on the form just to get an idea of fit, prep the cape and sew any holes and try it on again. After trying on again set cape in bag in frig and work on form, (any alterations that needed to be done), lips, nose, tear ducts and eye sockets if needed and set horns. After horns have set, pop them off and try on again, if happy with results set cape aside and set eyes. Then do ears on cape, put glue on face and half of form, slip cape on then put glue the rest of the way down on form, adjust cape, set horns back on and start tucking lips (I always tuck the upper lip first, just me), do nose, tear ducts and eyes, then start sewing (short incision on all capes), set ears, adjust hide, staple back, trim off excess, detail from the face down, hang up and watch it for a few days while it dries. Sometimes it goes fast (couple of hours) and sometimes it goes slow (four or so).

Thanks...

I mount two deer deer heads in a day to save time on certain steps and cleanup. It takes me about 7-9 hours to mount two deer heads. I also tan my own hides and do them in batches as well to save time. I typically finish 4 deer heads in a day.
