If there is a fire which totally ruins all the mounts, capes, antlers and supples. Is the taxidermist liable for people's cape's and antler's? This happened to me about ten years ago when I brought my son's deer in. Just curious, we were not that angry because it was a small deer but some other customers were.

...Most taxidermists have specific things such as fire, tornado, etc. that is in writing on their receipts (which you signed?) that relinquishes them of any responsibility in case of these disasters. If they didn't do this, then "yes" they could be held responsible...
A friend of mine lost his shop to a fire years ago.. He was devestated.Almost put him out of business.
If your guy was on the up and up and didn't set the fire give him a break and forget about it..
although my friend did give the customers that lost animals in the fire some free mounting on their next piece they brought in...smart way to keep hard sought customers.
I know, I was not planning on doing anything like that, I was curious what the outcome would be from a legal standpoint. Thanks
worst thing ever to happen to me. Although none of the mounts were destroyed, the fire was contained to my wifes attatched flower shop, the smoke did get to the customers antlers I had hanging on the ceiling and they were all black as the ace of spades. I was able to clean them but they were discolored. I asked my insurance agent if I should be covered and he told me that the ind. who owns the antlers home owners policy should cover it. I didnt think that was rite and I suppose each insurance company is differant but then told me that if I had a gun in someones house, and their house burned down my ins still had the coverage on that gun. Made scense to me at the time.john
