How big of a tumbler do you need if you want to do a couple of deer capes?

Mike, You don't need a tumbler to do deer capes. Many people do use tumblers to spead the drying of skins and capes but if you are planning to mount the cape I would not tumble at all. If you intend to tan skins and finish them soft and dry I would think a tumbler would be a nice thing to have-still not a required piece of equipment. I have a 30 gallon tumbler which I rarely use since I do wet tans for all of my mounts and send most wallhangers out to commercial tanners who do prettier dry tans than me. Enjoy, Aaron H.

Everything here goes in a tumbler. Tanned hides come out of the tan, and go into a centrifuge, then to the tumbler with kiln dried soft Maple saw dust. for 20 to 30 minutes, then they are mounted. Birds are tumbled with corn cob grits. A tumbled hide seems to be easier to work with, and the hair has a nice polished shine.
